The transparent gel (very suitable for dark-skinned people and bearded men) instantly plumps and moisturizes the skin. All people who hate oils will like a smooth surface. It provides enough moisture and smoothness for oily (even prone to acne), combination and balanced skins. You can apply makeup directly and skip the day cream altogether. SPF30 is sufficient for long-term use outdoors; remember that the difference between 30 and 50 is very small. Low maintenance and comfort, it will become a sunscreen that many people dream of.

For those of us who are older, drier, and less pigmented, the brand also launched Anthelios Age Correct SPF50 (£25, 50ml), a silky cream for all skin tones, which includes heroic transparent ingredients. Acid (moisturizing), niacinamide for inflammation and pores, fatty acid for gentle exfoliation, and resorcinol inhibit melanin production, leading to sunspots. The idea is to use it instead of day cream instead of using it separately. My skin agrees that it is rich enough to be used alone. If you are drier, this is the closest ideal sunscreen I have seen this year.

Vichy’s Capital Soleil UV-Age Daily Anti Photo-Ageing Water Fluid SPF50 (£21, 40ml, available at the same retailer as La Roche-Posay) is between gel and cream. It will be launched next month. Like the other two, this is more than just providing UV protection. The fashionable but indisputable niacinamide, which is beneficial to the skin, as well as peptides and probiotics are also involved in this behavior, neither of which is a bad thing. But I suspect that what all types of people like most is the water-like liquid that the pump dispenses.
